Unlike some "Viking" symbols, the Vegvísir isn't actually from the Viking Age — its earliest known written record is the 19th-century Icelandic Huld Manuscript, part of a longer Icelandic tradition of galdrastafir (magical staves) used in folk magic from at least the 17th century onward. The name translates roughly to "way-finder," and it was traditionally believed to help the bearer find their way home in bad weather.
This pendant is cast in a durable alloy with the runic detailing clearly defined. It's a piece of later Icelandic folklore rather than genuine Viking Age heritage — but one that's become one of the most recognised "Norse" symbols in jewelry today regardless.
